Wow, I haven't blogged since May 28 and a lot can happen in 8 days here. A LOT!
We had the most awesome guests come in this past Monday. It was a couple around 65 years old and the wives younger sister, who was probably about 50. They were all HILARIOUS and so high energy! They would come into the kitchen after fishing and just "oooh" and "awww" at everything that Manny was cooking. They were very appreciative of everything and just fun people to be around! The wife and her sister were so funny together. They were very witty and had great personalities that made the week go by fast! Time flies here like crazy! I can't believe it's already Friday. It feels like it was just Sunday!
We finished up planting in the garden besides the potatoes. We did some more pine cones and finished up doing all of the cabins. Today we deep cleaned the fridge which was a nice change of work. We blasted our music while we worked. We threw away a lot of old food, took out all the shelves, and cleaned everything REALLY well. It looks great! I just kept thinking, Am I really getting paid to do this? This doesn't even feel like work! It was a lot of fun :) Other stuff we do definitely does feel like hard work though. It isn't all fun and games. I'd say I'm definitely learning how to work harder than I've ever worked here.
It really feels like I live here now. Sometimes I say to Corseina, the BYU-Idaho girl that I work with, "It feels like I live here!" And she's like, "Uh, yeah we do live here..." but it's just so weird to me that we actually live here and can go get stuff out of the fridge whenever we want to and it everyone's starting to feel like family. It really does feel like home to me now. I'm going to be really sad to leave this place. Thinking about it makes me terribly sad! :(
Right now it's just Manny, Luke, Shannon, Brian, and I here on the island. Brittany and Josh are coming back in a few days and might be bringing some clients and then Jordan is coming back in a week or two. It'll be nice to have them all back, but I kind of like how things are now too. It's fun with lots of people and it's fun with few people. I just love everything about this place!
I had forgotten that I was in isolation until Corseina and I heard a plane overhead today while we were raking pine cones and I was so excited to see a plane! It was weird hearing that noise. It's so quiet here that I know it's going to be weird to go back to civilization with the police sirens and car sounds and all the other sounds that I don't hear here. It feels so busy and exciting here that I don't feel lonely or isolated. I thought it would be more of a problem but I haven't felt any sadness about being in isolation. In fact, I really like it.
It feels like we have our own little town with the guest cabins, main lodge, new lodge that's being built, and the staff lodge. The other day I realized that riding the four wheeler around to all the different buildings is the closest I will have been to driving a car the entire time I'm here (well and driving the boat I guess could be comparable) but that's just so weird! It'll be odd driving a car when I get back!
The picture below is from our little trip to Russian Island last week. We hiked up to Sunset Point. It looks like Ireland there. It was so pretty! I love it here! Luke is on the very left, then Manny the chef, Brian, and then me.
