Well I'll try my best to update you guys on what I can remember and I'll start with yesterday and hopefully that'll start to jog my memory for way past stuff.
Yesterday I woke up feeling really sick and throwing up. I threw up about 5 times and decided to sleep and rest the rest of the day. It was nice to be able to rest but I wish it had been under other circumstances instead of when I was feeling nauseous all day! What a waste! It's funny how precious alone time is here since I'm busy so often. And when I'm not working, I feel like socializing which is my own fault...I should take more time for myself!
We've had MANY new sets of guests come in since I last wrote and it's interesting how the conversation talk and the over all feeling changes when each new set of guests comes in. For example we had a family from Singapore come in and they spoke broken English but were hilarious and very lively at the dinner table! At the same time they were there, we had a pilot staying with us, as well as another family from Texas. They all got along great and chatted non stop at the dinner table about politics and all sorts of interesting things. They all really seemed to enjoy each other's company and it was fun listening to them while I cleaned up dinner each night with Nadia. I get sort of attached to the guests sometimes and get a little sad when they leave! For now, we're still in Shannon's cabin for meals, not the new bigger one that's being built, so we have to prepare and clean up meals right in the kitchen that's joined with the dining room. Once we're in the new building, all the preparations and clean up stuff will be behind the scenes in the back room, which will be sooooooo nice!
Nadia, Shannon's granddaughter, and I have been working out almost every night! Go us!!!! Brittany tries to get us to run with her but we both think there are better ways to do cardio than running, so we usually just do other stuff while she runs! We joke, but actually sorta mean it, that we should hop and skip with our giant bags full of towels and sheets each morning when we go to clean the cabins, for exercise. That would be quite a sight for the guests and rest of the staff to see, haha!
We haven't been doing a lot of Alaskany stuff (ya know, fishing, shooting, kayaking stuff) lately because the weather has been very dreary and depressing. When the sun does occasionally come out, everyone's happiness seems to go up a few notches and I feel all motivated to sit on the dock, tan, hike, etc, but the sun has only come out maybe twice in the past month. It's really starting to get to me but I'm trying to stay positive by reading positive Pinterest quotes and conference talks and uplifting things like that. And when I stop and think about how awesome this opportunity is, despite the weather and long work hours, I feel all happy inside and grateful that I get to be here! But seriously, I think San Diego and everywhere else is taking all our sunshine and that's not cool!
Oh! I forgot! The chef I work for always said to be careful and that one of us was going to end up cutting our finger. Me, being the invincible person I think I am sometimes, continued to cut carefully but clearly not carefully enough and ended up cutting my finger on a big piece of cheese!
That one to be precise! So then I started shaking my finger because I was freaked out and Manny and Nadia teased that it was like a bloody sprinkler! I ran into the bathroom and Manny started washing it and putting a bandage on it and all I remember is Nadia asking, "Do you feel dizzy? When I cut myself I felt really dizzy after." I remember saying, "No, I don't." and then saying, "I think I'm gonna pass out." Thankfully I slid myself down before I passed out but I woke up with Manny and Nadia above my head and I had NO CLUE who the heck they were. I had just had the longest dream that seemed like hours and then I woke up not knowing why I was on the ground or who was standing above me. It was so weird! Passing out is the strangest thing. I've done it before but this time seemed even weirder then other times. I ended up passing out AGAIN when we took the bandage off to add Neosporin. I thought looking at it would be fine but then I felt very woozy and I warned Manny that I felt like passing out, so he caught me this time. I'm such a whimp, haha! But Manny said I took the cut well, other than passing out because he's seen some people start screaming and crying and being real dramatic after cutting themselves and I was mostly laughing and trying to stay positive. But I'm still a whimp when I see things like that. I pass out when I get my blood drawn too.
Speaking of being a whimp, the one time I went on the boat to fish recently, I got really sea sick. It was AWFUL!! I was throwing up over the side over and over again and we couldn't go back to the lodge because the guests paid to go out and fish and also it took a lot of fuel to get to that fishing spot. It's awful knowing you're gonna be sick and throwing up for the next few hours on a boat and there's really nothing you can do about it! That was definitely one of my least favorite experiences that past few weeks.
Top 5 Experiences/Moments That I Can Remember:
1. Manny, the chef, telling Nadia and I that he would love to hire us at the ice cream/taco shop that he wants to open up in Hawaii. He thinks we're really hard workers even though he gets a littttttle upset at us for doing stupid things sometimes, like leaving empty boxes on the shelves that should be thrown away, haha!
2. 4th of July- even though we haven't even shot off fire works yet because it was raining on the 4th of July, we had a good time shooting off the double bomb and then Brittany, Nadia, and I had a great time riding the four wheeler up and down from Manny's cabin. We were laughing and yelling the whole time! It was a fun night.
3. Paint balling on Russian Island. We played a game where everyone runs towards the person with the paint ball gun while the person with the paint ball gun tries to shoot someone by the time they get to you. It was kind of scary running TOWARDS someone with a paint ball gun....
4. Buehler and I started a business called Fur & Bones. He gets the bones out of the Yellow Eye fish once the guests catch them and then we both make the earrings and sell them. He's also trying to sell animal furs which is where the Fur part of the name comes from.
There's a set we made! We sell them for $50 a piece now, but the price will go up to $60 once we get better at making them. We sell the studs we make for $25 right now. It sounds like a lot of money, but the people who come here are really wealthy and they love being able to buy something to remember their stay here! We've sold about 12 pairs so far! :)
5. I just ordered a book from Amazon and some things from Walmart! I'm so excited about it! I haven't bought ANYTHING besides $30 of earring supplies since I got here, so it was fun to do a little shopping and I only spent about $50 but it was fun to get some stuff that I've been needing. It's going to be so weird to be back home and be able to actually go to Walmart or to the grocery store whenever I want! What the heck! That's gonna be trippy!
I will try to write more often but that's about all I got for you for now! Xoxo, Coral
